Finding Security in an Insecure World

Finding Security in an Insecure World

We live in a world filled with fear, uncertainty, and anxiety. This old world has never really been a safe haven. Ever since sin entered the world, trouble has been a constant presence. How then do believers live with security in an insecure world? I would suggest that one proven method is by standing on God’s unfailing promises. The Bible says: “And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises” (I Peter 1:4 NLT). The hymn writer put it in the following words: “Standing on the promises that cannot fail when the howling storms of doubt and fear assail, by the living word of God I shall prevail.”

Let’s look at some of God’s great and precious promises that cannot fail. Having looked, may we choose to stand firmly upon them.

¨    This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9 NLT).

¨    Long ago the Lord said to Israel: “I have loved you,  my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself. (Jeremiah 31: 3 NLT)

¨   “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. (Matthew 7:7-8)

¨     Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28 NLT)

¨    So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.  ( Hebrews 6:18 NLT)

¨  Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever. (Psalm 23:6 NLT)
